Gearing Up for the Last Milestone

We are one step closer to launch with each passing milestone. Currently we have cleared 3 of 5 and are almost done with the 4th – Search and Filter. While the first three milestones went smoothly, we hit a couple snags with the Search and Filter milestone.

The first snag we encountered was with setting up and configuring our production infrastructure. For those of you that know a little bit about this, they can be tricky to setup the first time. Luckily, this is all now working like a charm and we can’t wait to open Fiber Club to the outside world.

Another snag we ran into was that we had to slightly tweak our data model for patterns. As we were implementing search and filters, we realized that our data models for grouping pattern data was redundant and could potentially be overwhelming. Instead of continuing down that path, we optimized the user experience to accommodate for all types of patterns – from simple to complex – by consolidating information and only showing the most relevant data.

In addition to working on the app itself, we are actively reaching out to designers for patterns to list for the launch. Currently we have 20 designers with 56 patterns. Although the sample of designers for the launch will only include those with a free pattern to share, our platform will become more robust once we build out payment.

We are treating the launch as more of a “soft launch” for all you that have followed and supported our journey for the past year. You’ll be able to see what we’ve been working on and interact with the product. We are making great progress, even though it’s slower than anticipated, and will keep you informed with more frequent updates.

We will send the next update during the last week of October and will cover Fiber Club finances as well as the type of company we’d like to become. Rommel and I are approaching Fiber Club as a long term project and we are thinking intentionally about the type of community, company and product we are creating. But more on that next time.

As always, thank you so much for following our journey and supporting us through this adventure. You can find us on Instagram, Patreon or on our website.
